Asian Youth Games

The first Asian Youth Games were held in Singapore in 2009, helping the hosts prepare to stage the first Youth Olympic Games run by the International Olympic Committee the following year.

The second edition of the Asian Youth Games, in Nanjing, China, in 2013, will serve a similar purpose ahead of the IOC’s second Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2014.

One of the most popular aspects of the first Asian Youth Games was the Culture and Education Programme in which young athletes could learn all about the other countries and regions thanks to exhibitions, games and performances.

Held every four years, the 2nd Asian Youth Games took place in Nanjing, China, in August 2013. The inaugural edition was held in 2009 in Singapore in preparation of the Youth Olympic Games, attracting 1,321 athletes who participated in 11 sporting disciplines over 90 events.

Featuring the budding talents of 45 Asian nations, the 2nd Asian Youth Games event will expand to 118 events and continue to feature Olympic disciplines such as diving, swimming, football, handball, badminton, table tennis and weightlifting and provide national athletes with a world-class platform to hone their competitive edge for the Youth Olympic Games.
