The International Olympic Day

The International Olympic Day was celebrated at the National Olympic Committee of
Afghanistan. Dr. Hafizullah Wali-Rahimi, President of the National Olympic Committee of
Afghanistan, the committee's leadership, heads of the Departments from Physical
Education and Sports of Afghanistan, and about 800 athletes participated in the ceremony.
However, the ceremony started by the recitation of some verses from Holy Quran, and
subsequently the National Anthem of Afghanistan was played and honored, a parade of
Athletes from the Olympic federations was scheduled in the honor of the day and was
enjoyed a lot by the viewers. Moreover, the president of National Olympic Committee of
Afghanistan, congratulated the International Olympic Day, the victory of the Afghan Futsal
Team in the Asian Futsal Championship, the victory of Taekwondo team in the India Open
G1 Championship and the 2nd position of Wushu in the Wushu Kung Fu Championship in
China, to the viewers and all Afghanistan Nation. Meanwhile, Rohullah Nikpa, the
Taekwondo champion of the country and Afghanistan’s first ever Olympic medalist spoke on
behalf of the athletes, and granted one of his championship medal to the country's National
Futsal Team. At the end of the ceremony, demonstrations were performed by Hockey,
Taekwondo, Karate, Fencing, Gymnastic, Kung Fu and Archery teams and was
appreciated. Furthermore, from June 23rd to June 30th, several federations in Kabul and
provinces took their Tournaments to mark the International Olympic Day. Hockey federation
launched its tournament on 23rd June in Kabul and Khost province. The running races were
also taking part in Bamyan province. The Basketball, Volleyball, Fencing, Bowling,
Handball, Boxing, athletic and shooting competitions also took place to commemorate the
International Olympic Day.
