The International Olympic day was briefly celebrated on June 23rd with a series of tournaments in eight various sports considering the guidance of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the medical committee of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee.

Tennis, Cycling, Motorcycling, Golf, Shooting, Archery, Swimming and Boating were the eight federations who held their competitions to mark the International Olympic Day.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Hafizullah Wali Rahimi, General Director of Physical Education and Sports and elected president of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee, the leadership of the committee, officials of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, heads of national federations and number of athletes.

Dr. Hafizullah Wali Rahimi in a speech on the Olympic day celebration ceremony, congratulated the Olympic day to the country’s sports community and to the H.E. president and executive board of International Olympic Committee and Olympic Council of Asia and spoke about the future plans and programs of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee.

At the end of the competitions, the winners of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in men’s and women’s sections of all federations participating in the ceremony were awarded championship cup by the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee.

Furthermore, the athletes have shared their daily workouts videos as well as their congratulatory messages in connection to the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee campaign on the occasion of Olympic Day 2020.

The International Olympic Day is celebrated annually on June 23rd by holding competitions and demonstrations in Afghanistan and all over the world, which was also celebrated in Afghanistan last year by launching competitions in various sports for about one week, but this year the day that celebrates sport and Olympic values were commemorated in a brief program due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
